SURVEY FOR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS TO PROVIDE INPUT ON PROPOSED CHANGES TO NALGA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

Given the steady decline especially since the COVID shutdown in the number of members participating in National Championships, the 2024 NALGA Council resolved to seek members' feedback on the factors impacting on members attending national Championships.

Additionally, within the Council there was consensus that a stableford option should be introduced for all left-hand entrants who wanted to play stableford rather than stroke. This was strongly supported through a straw poll held on day two of the participants at the 2024 Nationals.

Subsequently, the Executive met, and proposed, consistent with the Council Meeting consensus the following
  1. The Gross Stroke format be retained for Major Championships events, (Men's, Women's, Veterans and Super Veterans Champions). To be eligible for these Major championship events, players will be required to submit on the completion of each stroke round, on each day, a signed 18-hole stroke card.
  2. All other 72 hole and daily left-hand events for future Nationals be based on stableford scores.
  3. An option be provided that at any time during the event, for participants to opt to withdraw from the stroke events and continue to play stableford only.
It should be noted that this mirrors the successful Australian Veterans (AVGU) National Championship format. For those interested, the following link will take you to the AVG website that describes the format of the AVGU Championships. National Championships | AVGU

The survey has now closed, and an analysis of responses has been completed. Thank you to all members and friends who completed the survey.

If you click on the link below, a copy of the analysis, and recommendations can be downloaded.

All recommendations have been endorsed by the NALGA Council, and the Executive is in the process of implementing the recommendations. Priority is being given to the changes required to support the introduction of the stableford option in time for the 2025 Championships.
